HISTORY OF CLUB
SHELBY OWNERS OF
AMERICA, INC. was founded in the
early 1970’s and incorporated on August 10, 1982. The club initially began with
enthusiast’s interest in the 1964 ½ - 1970 Mustang. SOA now includes all
collectable and specialty Ford-powered vehicles. The club has held national
conventions for the past 34 years.
The
national conventions begin with registration on Friday evening. Drag races and
an auto cross are on Saturday open to all Ford powered vehicles. There is a
powder puff drag and auto cross race for the ladies of the club. A banquet is
held Saturday evening for all with great barbecued food. Many door prizes
donated by various sponsors are given away at this time.
On
Sunday of the convention, the car show is held with trophies awarded to the top
winner in the following classes: Cobras; 1965 to 1970 Shelby; 1969 to 1971
Boss 302, 351, 429; 1969 to 1973 Mach 1; 1964 ½ to 1966 Mustang Convertible;
1964 ½ to 1966 Mustang Coupe; 1965 to 1966 Mustang Fastback; 1967 to 1973
Mustang Convertible; 1967 to 1973 Mustang Coupe; 1967 and up Mustang Fastback;
1971 to 1973 Mustang; 1974 to 1978 Mustang; Cougar, Cyclone and Montego;
Galaxie and Fairlane; T-Bird, Pantera, Replica; Special Interest Ford Car;
Special Interest Ford Truck; 1979 to 1981 Mustang; 1982 to 1986 Mustang; 1987
to 1993 Mustang; 1994 and up Mustang; Modified Class; Shelby/Dodge; 1993 and
up Cobra; Saleen/McClarren; Special Guest Mopar; and Special Guest Chevrolet.
This is
an event with lots of fun and lots of winners.
